Logging on

You don't need to log on to browse around ambertam.com. All the events, word searches and filters are available without you having to register as an ambertam member.

However, registering as a member does have added benefits. Apart from being able to save your favourite searches so you can access them with a single click, you can arrange to be reminded of a particular event you might be interested in. We will send you an email at a date you can specify. As a registered member, you can also make sure you get all the latest news, updates and information about sparkling new features on ambertam.com as soon as they become available by opting to receive our regular (but not so regular they become annoying) newsletters.

You can also become an advertiser, placing your very own events on ambertam.com. By becoming an ambertam advertiser, you will get a whole load of advertising space for just £4.95.

The log on link can be found on the home page in the My ambertam panel just under the words My account. You will see a padlock logo just up and to the right.

If you don't log on when you are at the home page, the log on padlock and link move to the left panel, just above the keyword search and here it stays no matter what page you are on (except the home page).

Once you have logged in, you can save your searches, go to your account, event manager and arrange for those reminders to be sent.

You will also notice that the log on instruction disappears, to be replaced by a log out link. How neat is that? We thought of that, you know... we did...

Logging out

To log out you will have needed to be logged in. If you're not logged in, you cannot log out. If you are logged in, just find the log out link and click it. If you are logged in but cannot log out, we need to know, so please contact us.

Managing my account

My Ambertam

This brings you back to the home page in the My Ambertam section

Jump to main listings

This takes you the main listings where, now you are logged in, you can execute your favourite searches, save new favourite searches and arrange to be sent reminders of events that attract your interest.

Latest news

As a registered member, you get access to the latest news about Ambertam as it breaks. This means new facilities and features will be announced here, along with any breaking news stories about Britain’s fast-growing family leisure and pleasure site. You will also have access to the So What’s New section, which contains a mine of tips and tricks and also invites you to leave feedback and what you like, what you don’t like and what you would like to see on Ambertam.

Favourite searches

Once logged in, you will be able to save up to five of the searches you execute most regularly. So if you are looking for boot fairs within 10 miles of your home, don’t click on all the filters - just do it once, save it as a favourite search, give the search a name, and then all the details will be available to you with a single click.

Event reminders

If you discover a must-attend event and want to be reminded about it a little nearer the time, you can arrange to be sent an email in advance. Once logged in, just locate the event you want, click on the “more info” option and then, in the pop-up box, select “remind me” and follow the simple instructions.

My account

Change my details

Of course, you might change your name and this would be the place to do it for your Ambertam membership, but this section is really for organisations and companies who might have a change of personnel. This is also where you uncheck a box if you think you might be irritated by the occasional message, update or offer from Ambertam.

Change my email

It happens - you fall out of love with your old dotcom account, or that aol.com, hotmail.com or yahoo.com address just doesn’t quite do it for you. Here’s the place to tell us you want to be known from now on as thebusiness@wonderfulme.com

Change my password

To change your old password to a new one, just enter your old password first, then type in what you want as a new password and then confirm it. Easy. This is particularly useful when you have been sent a new password to replace a forgotten one and don’t like the one we’ve sent you. Ambertam does not keep your password, so we cannot tell you what it was. But what we can do is reset it, send you a new one and then you can change it to whatever you like – even back to your old one if you have suddenly remembered what it was.

Events Manager

Book a new event

Booking your own event in Ambertam is quick and easy. You don’t even have to complete all the stages at once. The information you have entered is automatically stored the moment you move on to a new page. Go on, try it.

Manage my events

All your non-archived events are here. These include live events that have been completed, that are yet to be completed, and that have been paid for and are still live. All events that are past today’s dates go into the “my archived events” section. You can also choose to archive any live events, but note this has the effect of taking them off the live listing. In other words, if you want to delete an event whether or not it has been completed and paid for, moving it to the archive will mean it will not appear on ambetam.com.

You will also see that the events manager enables you to do a lot more other stuff too. You can edit your event (that means you can change the wording, category, time… anything. When you have paid and the event is published on our website, you can still make a whole load of changes EXCEPT you cannot change the date you booked the event for. If the event is cancelled, you can archive it thus removing the event from the listings, or you can leave it live but just notify people in our special alert area, that this event is now cancelled. Sometimes people are just as grateful to know that something is no longer happening as they are to know it’s going ahead.

You can duplicate your ad. This is useful when you have a weekly or regular event you want to publicise but do not want to have to write everything out again. Simply duplicate the ad and make any little changes you want to the information contained within.

The “Details” link brings up a panel to show you the event’s ID (which is searchable in the keyword search facility), the heading and brief description, whether it’s a Nightlife event, whether you have selected an optional additional category, and also gives you a breakdown of the charges applied to this particular insert. You can also print this out for your records.

You can sort your events by the ID number (latest events, ie, the highest ID numbers, will appear first), event title (as-yet untitled events will appear first, followed by events alphabetically), or start time – your events will appear in chronological order (as-yet undated events will appear first.)

All events past today’s date will automatically go into your archive.

When you are ready to pay and publish your events, you can select multiple events and click “Pay now”. Just follow the instructions and you will be eased through that not-so-painful payment process. You can use the multiple selection to manually archive events. This is useful if you have a handful of events you started but no longer want on your “live events” area.

If you have a voucher code, you can publish your ad by clicking on this button.

Once you have paid and published your event, you can select ONE event at a time and hit the Create Poster button. This terrific tool enables you to have a poster compiled in colour or black and white so you can print it out and distribute it without having to do any artwork, word processing or going cap in hand to a printers’ shop. Do remember, though, there are rules about where you put your poster. Billy Stickers is not a welcome kind of guy everywhere he goes, you know.

My archived events

This keeps a record of everything you have archived manually and everything that has been published on ambertam.com but is now past its sell-by date. This archive will keep your records for 12 months. The events can be sorted by ID number, event title or start date/time. The “Details” panel is the same as accessed in the live events area.

Transaction history

This keeps a record of all your actual transactions, which might be useful for your bookkeeping or accounts. It is quite easy to copy and paste this into a spreadsheet. I know. I’ve tried it and it worked.

Payments

When your ad is ready to go live, click on Pay Now. You will be presented with a details panel showing you what ad or adverts have been selected for payment, the ID number, and a breakdown of costs, including extras and VAT. When you are happy to proceed, press Confirm.

The confirmation purchase events panel is simply a summary of what you are about to receive in return for your money – in other words, for the best value advertising on the internet.

Just follow the instructions and arrange payment on our secure servers.

Once the payment has been accepted, you will see a panel confirming payment acceptance and payment total. You will also receive a unique reference number. An email will be sent to you from Ambertam in addition to a confirmation from our secure online bank, SECPay.

You can click on a link to give you further details of your purchase direct from SECPay if you wish.

Once you are done, press the button to return you to the Events Manager.

Printing posters

This great feature is unique to Ambertam and enables you to print out a poster of your ambertam entry.

This facility is available to you as soon as your event is paid and goes live on the website.

To create your poster, go to My Ambertam>Manage My events.

Select the event you want to print as a poster in the Select checkbox. Please note you can only choose one event at a time!

Press the Create Button poster at the foot of the page

You will then have a choice of colour poster or black and white.

You can also choose to include a map showing the location of the event.

If you do not want the map, you can uncheck the “include map” box. In its place will be a border around a blank space. You can use this to manually insert other details (admission charge, concessions etc).

If you do want the map, leave the box checked. You will also find you are able to manipulate the map - you can zoom in, move around, even select a satellite image of your venue or overlay the satellite image with a map of road names etc. How cool is that?

Next, tick the box to confirm you are aware of the terms and conditions. These cover legal points regarding copyright and information about your responsibilities regarding distribution and posting of your printouts.

When you press “create poster” a preview image of your poster will appear. Using your own computer’s set-up and print dialogues you can print as many or as few of your posters as you wish.

Happy poster-making!
